Ode to the Super-Sons

Last OSC-inspired super-sketch, this time a nod to the '70s "Super-Sons" tales featuring Superman Jr. and Batman Jr. I always liked those tales, and their hip clothes. They seemed like well-adjusted guys.

As promised, what I do well: indie hipster Superman a la Supergirl's '70s costume. 

So, uh, yes, this is what I had in mind for Comic Con. I have the 'S' patch, the T. Dog collar, cape, red Chucks, red square cuts, no problem. The belt, we'll see...

Aside from the Fd up (stoned?) eyes, this is not a bad rendition of Sups, apparently amidst a meteor storm (or something). I am Ok with the line art.

The coloring—ugh. 

I recently got my tablet functioning properly, so this is my first coloring in over a year. I was never a strong colorist, but wow, I'm rusty.

But, that is what practice is for.

A chilling apokolyptic future

If you haven't been following the controversy regarding DC Comics' decision to hire Orson Scott Card to write Superman comic books, please do catch up, and sign all the petitions you can. Long story short, he's anti-gay and fans and retailers are beginning to band together in opposition.

Sadly, I haven't read a Superman comic in years, so I can only voice my opinion rather than vote with my economic dollar.

I can also draw some fun sketches. Here's an OSC-inspired image of Superman saving his pal Jimmy Olsen, his girlfriend Lois Lane, and his boss, Perry White from gay pedophiles. 

Later I will share what I do best for your delight. And, perhaps preview my Superman outfit I will wear to Comic Con if I'm brave enough.

Comic Con International

Yay, Comic Con! I haven't been since 2007, so I am eager to go and see many old friends. Comic Con is the largest comic con in the US... 100,000 + attendees. I have been going most years since I lived in San Diego more than a decade ago. When I began self-publishing seriously, I started exhibiting. This year, I will not be exhibiting, only attending as a "professional" and will do a few booth signings and also will be on a romance comics panel. Exhibitng is fun, but exhausting for a large 5 day show. It can be sensory overload. So, very excited to just go for mostly fun.

I drew this little Superman on some scrap Bristol board during TCAF in May. I love goofy monsters and aliens, and here Supes is getting blasted by this one's fire breath. I quickly colored it in Painter to use as a homepage update-y thing for my Comic Con schedule for my site. I purposefully colored Supes in a short sleeved uniform, but I'm not sure if I like that.
