Lilith & Gnaark

Here's another commission I did a little while ago for a fellow early '70s Teen Titans fan. After I finished the line art, the commissioner added some nice colors, appropriate from the series. I was then inspired to play with Painter and add chalk-y colors. I try to purist but I still prefer these alternate colors for Lilith and Gnaark. The original Titans' jumpsuits were grey for the boys and Lilith sometimes wore green or pink. I think not until the series was revived in 1977 did Mal wear an orange jumpsuit. Anyway, Lilith and Gnaark are among my favorites, and I liked my brushwork on the figures.

I've sketched Mal with his girlfriend, Bumblebee, but nothing I am yet happy with. Maybe someday I will capture their relationship as well as I have captured Lilith and Gnaark's here. Time will tell.

Have to admit, I never much cared for Lilith and Gnaark.

They showed up during the time when the Titans weren't allowed to use their superpowers (because it would make them "cooler"). As a Wondergirl fan, it kind of irked me. Wondergirl couldn't use her super strength, but Gnaark could. And Wondergirl couldn't use her superspeed etc, but Lilith could use her ESP.

I didn't quite get the reasoning behind it all.

The lack of costume idea lasted less than a year (issue 25 to 29, if I recall correctly, so about 10 months). I always liked Lilith's green mini-skirt outfit; I used to think that was her costume. patrick

I never read the teen titans by the time I go to them they all looked like late 20/early 30 year olds and the stories were all so melodramatic. I feel like i missed out on the TItan's good times. I love the cartoon, a new discovery (thank you mr. fish) perhaps you should direct me as to where to start reading the titans!

Ha! This stuff is GREAT!!!

The fist Teen Titans appearance sans Wonder Girl is Hilarious... Vs. Mr. Twister. He is pretty much and angry old homeless guy dressed in colonial wear and a 'carrier pigeon feather cape' carrying an Native American staff which he creates whirlwinds with! Would love to see a Teen Titans Villains Gallery Drawing with some of these old characters in your style!
